How Etsy fees actually work
Etsy stacks four separate charges on a single order, and most sellers only account for one of them. Here is what each one does:

The one that surprises people is shipping. Because the 6.5% transaction fee applies to shipping too, charging $6 shipping costs you an extra $0.39 in fees. That is why free shipping built into the price often nets you the same amount with a cleaner listing.
What counts as a healthy margin
After Etsy's cut and before your own labour, aim for 40–60% net. If this calculator shows under 20%, there are only three levers: raise the price, cut material cost, or stop offering free shipping on low-value items. Discounting is almost never the fix — Etsy fees scale with the sale, so a 20% discount removes 20% of the price but only 6.5% of the fee.

Does Etsy charge a fee on shipping?
Yes. The 6.5% transaction fee applies to the full order value, shipping included.
Can I opt out of Offsite Ads?
Only if you have sold under $10,000 in the past 365 days. Above that threshold, participation is mandatory at 12% on attributed orders.
Is this calculator accurate for digital products?
The rates are the same. Digital products skip shipping, so set shipping to 0 — but the $0.20 listing fee and 6.5% transaction fee still apply.
